Types of Probiotic Supplements
By Ken Wilssens
Today you can purchase probiotic supplements in various different forms. But the most popular of the ones available are the ones that come either as freeze dried powder or as capsules. However deciding which actually is the best type of supplement for a person to take can seem quite a difficult choice. But in this article we will provide you with a little bit more information about each type of supplement that is available so that when it comes time to you purchasing yours you will be able to choose the supplement that will suit you best. Freeze Dried Powders This type of supplement is often added to unchilled water for a person to consume. The best type of powder supplement to purchase is one that contains only 1 strain of bacteria within it. The main reason why a lot of people choose to use this kind of supplement is because it gets the probiotics (friendly bacteria) into the intestinal tract much quicker than the other kinds of supplements available. Often this type of supplement will be used with children as they often find it very difficult to swallow capsules. Capsules In most cases people will tend to take capsules as they are a lot more convenient than dried powder supplements as you only need to swallow them with a glass of water rather than having to mix up the powder before it can be drunk. Plus with a lot of the capsule supplements now available especially ones such as Primal Defense Ultra (by Garden of Life) these contain large amounts (15 billion) of the friendly bacteria that our intestinal tract needs to remain fit and healthy. Plus Primal Defense Ultra also contains a compound known as UltraZorb which when it reaches the intestinal tract is easily absorbed and is actually able to gain access to the colon and duodenum as well. Liquid The problem with this particular form of probiotic supplement is that it will start to lose its strength after a couple of weeks from when it was produced. Certainly there are certain liquid types of probiotic supplements that are available today which need to be treated in the same way as dairy products. This means that they should come with an expiration date upon them and should be refrigerated at all times. But a big problem with these kinds of supplements is that the companies who produce them will add buffering agents to prevent them from becoming sour or bitter but it also interferes with how the probiotic bacteria perform. As you can see from above there are various different types of probiotic supplements available today, however the most commonly and widely used are the capsule kinds. |
